Tim Evans

Tim is a highly experienced corporate finance professional helping clients raise capital as well working on buy and sell-side mergers and acquisitions in the UK and Europe

Tim’s clients have included private equity portfolio companies, owner managed businesses, family offices and UK quoted corporates in many industry sectors including business services, industrials, media, consumer and technology.

Tim’s expertise includes advising on UK public and private company mergers and acquisitions and Takeover Code governed transactions in Europe and North America. He is also experienced in company-side financial restructuring transactions and fundraisings.

He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with EY before joining Close Brothers Corporate Finance in 2000. He subsequently worked in mid-market investment banking for over 20 years as well as for a European family office.

 

Nick Alexander

Nick is an experienced restructuring professional specialising in complex operational turnarounds and highly stressed situations for over 25 years with serial success increasing performance and adding value

Awarded Independent Turnaround Executive by the Institute for Turnaround (London) in 2022, Nick has a consistent track record of value creation for private capital, private equity, lenders and boards as a Chairman, CEO, CRO and board advisor.

He has operated across a wide range of sectors including retail, IT, facilities management, software, manufacturing, M&E tunnelling, engineering services, holiday parks, materials handling, printing, distribution and logistics, newspaper & magazine publishing, packaging, exhibitions, events; with operations in the UK, USA, Australia, Norway, Thailand, Belgium and the Falklands. Nick has worked on situations which range in size from £50-700m.

Nick has experience of accelerated mergers and acquisitions, key stakeholder management in highly stressed situations, interim senior leadership and operational transformation. Nick maintains enthusiastic support for community organisations and is a Trustee of Southwell Cathedral.

 

Hadley Chilton

Hadley specialises in providing governance and leadership in complex engagements, including shareholder activism and disputes, bondholder enforcement, succession management and sale mandates

He has substantial regulated financial services experience, with a particular focus on hedge funds, private equity, sovereign wealth funds and family offices, with full-lifecycle experience including launch, fundraising, growth, M&A, succession, exit and orderly wind-downs.

During times of crisis or transition, he acts as independent director, receiver, chief restructuring officer, and liquidator of client entities globally. Hadley has been selected to lead many high-profile mandates and has taken control of, managed and disposed of a wide range of portfolio companies and assets with multi-jurisdictional regulatory, political and economic considerations, leveraging his experience in the major international financial centres.

A Chartered Accountant and TCFD certified, he is a Cayman registered director, has been a BVI regulated insolvency practitioner for over 12 years, and on a case-by-case basis, the UK FCA Approved Person. He is an active member of the Guernsey and BVI Investment Funds Associations and helped to set up the Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (BVI) serving three terms as a Board member. He is a member of INSOL International and regularly speaking on panels at industry events.

 

Richard Clarke

Richard has more than 25 years’ of financial and transaction advisory experience working across the Middle East and globally, specialising in business turnaround, transformation and restructuring

Richard has a strong background in financial advisory, corporate restructuring, and value creation. His notable roles include serving as Managing Director at Kroll Middle East and as a Partner at KPMG Lower Gulf. His extensive experience also encompasses leadership positions at Dubai International Capital LLC and Deloitte, where he played a key role in establishing and expanding M&A and financial advisory practices in the Middle East and London. Richard has a proven track record of transforming businesses and managing diverse asset portfolios.

With board-level experience, including roles as CFO and CEO, Richard brings substantial operational insights, contributing to effective decision-making. Richard works with local sponsors, investors, and lenders. He has cultivated key relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including private equity, family offices, sovereign wealth funds, lenders and advisors.

Richard qualified as an accountant in 1998 and has a degree in Economics from the University of Glasgow.

 

Richard Boléat

Richard Boléat was born in Jersey in 1963. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, having trained with Coopers & Lybrand in Jersey and the United Kingdom

After qualifying in 1986, he subsequently worked in the Middle East, Africa and the UK for a number of commercial and financial services groups before returning to Jersey in 1991.  He was formerly a Principal of Channel House Financial Services Group from 1996 until its acquisition by Capita Group plc (“Capita”) in September 2005. Richard led Capita’s financial services client practice in Jersey until September 2007, when he left to establish Governance Partners, L.P., an independent corporate governance practice.

He currently acts as Chairman of CVC Income & Growth Limited, Audit Committee Chairman of M&G Credit Income Investment Trust plc, and Director of Third Point Investors Limited, all of which are listed on the London Stock Exchange Additionally, Richard has extensive investment management experience in the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg.

He is regulated in his personal capacity by the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

 

Alain Le Berre

Alain has 35 years of broad-ranging experience with a focus on special situations, investment banking, private equity, financial and strategic consulting, as well as operational management roles

Alain has been a Partner at Ernst & Young, and prior to that at Andersen Corporate Finance, in Paris. He was also Managing Director European Special Situations at Close Brothers Corporate Finance, a highly respected mid-market Investment Bank in London, and Managing Director and European Head of Restructuring / Litigation Advisory for two large international financial consultancies (BTG Mesirow and Huron Consulting Group). After these roles, he founded his own consultancy firm based in Lausanne, Switzerland to help his Swiss and international clients improve turnaround, recovery or exit outcomes for their challenged assets.

Alain is a Swiss and French national who has worked and lived in Switzerland, Germany, France, the UK and is fluent in all three languages. He is a Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) who also holds a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France, a Master of Sciences, Engineering, from Ecole Centrale de Paris, France, and an Islamic Finance Qualification.

Alain co-founded the Swiss Turnaround Association in 2020 and served on its Board until September, 2023. He now serves on the Board of the Turnaround Management Association Europe and also serves as Chair for Education on the Board of the European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals.

 

Robert Deering

Robert has over 13 years of experience and comes from an investment banking background, having previously worked at Goldman Sachs where he focused on the tech, media & telecom and consumer goods industry sectors

Robert started his career in fixed income data analytics and sales at Bloomberg. Before entering the financial sector, he served in the British Army for six years reaching the rank of Captain. He has a deep understanding of tactics, strategies, and operational procedures with the ability to analyse complex situations and make well-informed decisions.

He has worked across the world and engaged clients and internal stakeholders on business development, deal origination, selection and execution. He has experience in working with Mauritius based funds and investing into various asset classes in Africa. Rob is head of origination at Cork Gully.

He has an MBA from the University of Warwick Business School and is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the University of Leeds.

 

Rupert  Strachwitz

Rupert has over 30 years’ of experience in corporate finance in cross-border private debt and equity markets having worked in the UK, Germany, Italy and India

Rupert started his career in insurance before joining a specialist media financing boutique. In 2001, he joined Dresdner Kleinwort Capital in London, where he focused on structuring and placing alternative asset funds. He then moved to Munich to run a cross-border corporate finance boutique. In 2007 Rupert co-founded one of the first internationally financed Indian renewable energy companies, and led the company to an IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 2009. Having exited the business in 2014, Rupert advised a range of UK and European companies on corporate finance and Indian market strategy.

Rupert is experienced in evaluating and executing sale mandates, often at short notice. He works closely with Stephen in the sale of distressed assets.

He is a UK Financial Conduct Authority Approved Person and an affiliate of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments.

 

Vivek Mehra

Vivek is an investment banking professional, fund manager and investor in companies throughout India and South-East Asia

He started his career at JM Financial in the capital markets group before joining the Corporate Banking Group of Standard Chartered Bank in 1994. In 1999, he joined Voest Alpine as the Head of Structured Finance for South and South-East Asia where he managed transactions in the renewable energy sector. In 2007 he joined a leading Indian private sector bank, as Managing Director. At the bank he was responsible for a 30-person team and led a wide range of investment banking and sales mandates throughout Asia.

In 2011 he joined Aloe Private Equity and, as Managing Director for India, led the US$300m fund’s investments in mid-market Indian corporates. He was responsible for developing and implementing investment strategies based on the fund’s objectives, risk tolerance, and target markets. He analysed market trends, economic indicators, and financial data to make informed decisions on behalf of the fund including workouts and the sale of portfolio assets.

In 2015, he established his own consultancy to advise banks, funds and their investors focused on India and South-East Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).

 

Rohit Mehra

Rohit is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Insolvency Professional with over 25 years professional experience in asset reconstruction, private equity and banking

Rohit started his career with Bank of America in Mumbai in 1995. Post his MBA, he relocated to New York, where he completed stints with an early-stage venture-backed firm in Stamford, CT and with Merrill Lynch in New York. In 2003 Rohit joined Ankar Capital Management, a specialist private equity fund focused on investment opportunities across Asia. In 2007 he joined GE Capital, India, where he was Vice President Private Equity. He managed investments in key portfolio companies in the energy, infrastructure, IT and transport sectors. From 2012, he served as President, Asset Reconstruction at International Asset Reconstruction Company, a leading Indian asset reconstruction firm, where he led acquisitions and resolution of non-performing assets evaluating over US$7.5 billion and more than 2,000 assets in bank auctions.

He has worked in India, Singapore and New York.

Rohit has an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management and is a registered Resolution Professional in India.

 

Simon Davies

Simon has 23 years’ experience in financial and operational restructuring and crisis management both as an adviser and an executive often in the most challenging of circumstances in Europe, Asia and Latin America

Simon began his career as a lawyer at Linklaters and then Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, From 2004, Simon worked as a financial adviser at Close Brothers Corporate Finance and then moved to Blackstone, where he was a Managing Director of the European restructuring team, establishing their advisory practice in 2007.

Simon has worked as advisor for funds, companies and lenders on some of the largest and most complex restructurings of the last two restructuring cycles. These include Eurotunnel, the Drax power station and Ebone/Esprit Telecom in a restructuring cycle driven by energy and telecoms deregulation Simon’s clients include Basis Capital (an Australian hedge fund), Northern Rock, PWC (as administrators of Lehman Brothers Europe) and MBIA in the financial crisis. He has also provided strategic capital structure advice for various institutional and sovereign clients.

Simon is a regular contributor to the press and was co-editor of The Corporate Restructuring Journal for several years.

 

Carl Winkworth

Carl has over 30 years’ experience acting for major financial institutions and investment funds across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He has advised clients in restructurings, special situations and investigations

He founded the London office of an international advisory firm and led their European practice for over a decade building the largest secondary debt trading team in Europe. He has acted in many high-profile cross-border restructurings, special situations and investigations and is responsible for developing many of the conventions and market-standards currently used by the European market for secondary debt and claims trading.

His exposure to crisis management and restructuring, makes him a versatile and experienced advisor who has a reputation for solving problems.

Carl advises a range of stakeholders including including direct lenders, distressed debt funds and sponsors.

 

Anthony Cork

Anthony has more than 25 years’ experience specialising in restructuring, recovery and insolvency assignments. Advising a broad range of stakeholders on challenging situations both inside and outside of insolvency

He regularly assists boards, investors and financiers to find unique and innovative solutions to distressed, often complex and contentious recovery situations. Anthony works with both smaller and large corporates spanning a wide range of sectors providing practical, straightforward and commercial advice. Anthony is known for his willingness to take on engagements, often on short notice, utilising his skills, tenacity, and visionary approach to deliver results that not only preserve but also enhance value for his clients.

Anthony also brings to the firm his knowledge and experience gained from secondments at two of the largest banks in the UK.

His extensive experience encompasses a wide range of industries such as financial services, asset management, real estate, energy, mining, life sciences, technology, media, manufacturing, and transportation.

 

Mark Smith

Mark has 15 years’ experience across a broad range of the advisory and insolvency spectrum. Prior to joining Cork Gully, Mark worked at big-four and boutique firms, both in the UK and offshore

Mark is a qualified accountant and UK qualified insolvency practitioner. He has assisted clients across a range of different industries in both distressed and non-distressed environments and is comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels.

Mark works closely with investment managers to help deliver unique solutions to maximise returns for investors, particularly in tail-end scenarios or where there are elements of distress. He also maintains a strong focus on accelerated M&A processes, formal insolvency and helping businesses simplify their corporate structures.

Mark has contributed to technical presentations on behalf of regulatory bodies and has been involved in the drafting of insolvency laws in key offshore jurisdictions.

Stephen is our Managing Partner with over 30 years' experience focussing on restructuring and special situations. Based in London, he is renowned for leading on tough, complex assignments

Stephen has specialised in restructuring and insolvency since 1989, having qualified in 1993. He progressed in his career, becoming a partner at Moore Stephens in 1994 before transitioning to Smith & Williamson (now Evelyn Partners) in 2000. At Smith & Williamson, he served as the Head of Restructuring from 2005 to 2010, overseeing both national and international assignments. Stephen played a significant role on the Management Board of Smith & Williamson during his tenure. In 2010, he took on the role of Managing Partner at Cork Gully.

He has built a strong reputation for agile thinking and insightful decision-making, enabling him to chart a precise course of action for his clients during crucial moments. Stephen thrives on the challenge of analysing complex financial situations within corporates and investment funds, skilfully identifying underlying issues, and devising strategic solutions to address them.

Stephen’s expertise includes business transformation, accelerated mergers and acquisitions, asset management, dispute resolution, restructuring, and insolvency. Stephen is also an experienced licensed insolvency practitioner. He maintains a strong commitment to pro bono, by advising financial cooperatives.
